PETUNIA

CALENDULA

Pot Marigold (Calendula officionalis) is a spreading herbaceous annual. Several cultivars are available in yellow or orange. They are used for cut flowers and can bloom from spring well into fall if deadheaded regularly and work well at the front of borders and as a short-term groundcover. ZINNIA

Zinniais an upright herbaceous annual. Many hybrids are available in shades of red, pink, orange, yellow or white. These come in various sizes from six inches up to three feet depending on variety. For better information about plant growth, check the label on the package or container. Zinnias can bloom from spring well into fall if deadheaded regularly and attract butterflies. COSMOS

CULTIVATION AND PROPAGATION FOR ANNUALS.

• CULTIVATION:
  • Location: Plant in full sun. Calendulas may also do well in part shade.
  • Soil: Any soil type, well drained.
  • Water: Provide regular water.
  • Pruning: Deadhead regularly to prolong bloom.
• PROPAGATION: Annuals are easily started from seed in spring. Broadcast or place seed where the plant is to grow or start seeds in a flat or container. When seedling has the first true leaves, move it into a two-inch container or six-pac. Annuals are best transplanted in mid-spring. Transplant purchased or homegrown plants to the garden from four-inch containers or six-pacs. Annuals may also be planted after the worst of hot weather for fall bloom through Christmas.
