Bottlebrush

Bottlebrush (Callistemon) are several species of deciduous shrubs from Australia. Bottlebrushes are available in shades of red, except for Lemon Bottlebrush (C. pallidus), which is creamy yellow. They are very attractive to bees.

CULTIVATION:

• Location: Plant in full sun. They love the heat.
• Soil: They like moderately fertile soil that is moist but well drained.
• Water: Water freely while in growth. They are somewhat drought resistant when well established. Reduce water in late fall to encourage winter dormancy.

PROPAGATION:

• Bottlebrush may be started from semi-ripe cuttings in late summer. They may also be started from seed. Plant in a flat or protected seedbed during fall to start for the next season. Lift and plant into containers when roots and sprouts form.
