Hydrangea is a commonly planted flowering shrub
with showy ornamental flower heads in white or shades
of blue or pink.
Flower color is strongly affected by soil ph.
All parts of the plant may cause stomach upset if ingested.
Handling foliage may exaccerbate skin allergies.
- CULTIVATION:
- Location: Full sun or partial shade. Protect from cold
drying winds.
- Soil: Fertile, humus rich, moist but well drained.
- Water:
Provide deep water regularly.
- Feeding: Soil with PH less than 5.5 produces blue flowers.
Soil with PH greater than 5.5 produces pink flowers.
White flowers are not affected by soil PH.
- PROPAGATION:
Deciduous species are best started from softwood cuttings in
spring or summer.
Evergreen species need cuttings over bottom heat in winter.
Use non-flowering shoots.
