Pincushion Flower
Pincushion Flowers (Scabiosa atropurpurea ) are mostly short-lived perennials.
'Butterfly Pink' and 'Butterfly Blue' are most often found locally.
Several species are available but no members have recommended them.
They do well at the front of the dry border, or in drought-resistant meadow gardens.
They like hot weather and are excellent for dry borders.
They make a good cut flower.
Butterflies are attracted to them.
CULTIVATION:
- Location: Plant in full sun.
- Soil: Any moderately fertile soil type with good drainage.
They will do well in neutral to slightly alkaline soil.
- Water: Provide periodic deed watering, but protect from overly
wet conditions..
They are somewhat drought tolerant
- Pruning: Deadhead regularly to prolong bloom.
PROPAGATION:
- Divide and replant every three years or so.
