Society Garlic
Society Garlic (Tulberghia violacea) is a clumping perennial grown
from rhizomes.
It does well in sunny border, rock garden, or open garden.
Its fragrant blooms appear in summer to fall in shades of purple.
Some smaller species need special treatment in scree or trough.
It is dormant in summer, needing little water.

- Soil: Well drained, moderately fertile loam.
- Water: Water freely during growth; reduce water after
blooms appear.
- Seasonal care: Remove top growth after it browns and fades.

- Plant seed in flats or cold frame just after it
ripens in late fall. Grow in containers until rhizomes are easy
to separate in spring.
